Dr. Braden Vernon PhD

Psychotherapist, Clincial Sexologist, AU

My work focuses on psychosexual concerns that are often difficult to discuss openly, including sexual trauma, compulsive sexual behaviours, paraphilic interests, attraction to minors, and experiences of shame relating to sexuality and identity.

I have undertaken graduate training in psychotherapy, personality assessment, trauma treatment, and sexology, and have worked extensively with individuals seeking support for highly sensitive concerns.

The Reflection Room was created to provide a confidential and reflective space where these experiences can be explored thoughtfully, respectfully, and without sensationalism.

Graduate Qualifications

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) (Research area: Personality functioning in adults with paraphilic sexual interests)
  • Master of Counselling (Trauma Informed Psychotherapy)
  • Graduate Diploma of Counselling
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Master of Arts in Psychoanalysis (Current Candidate)

The Assessment Process

The first step is an initial assessment conducted over three appointments.

While the assessment process will work to understand your concerns around sexuality, it will not focus solely on this area. The process is designed to develop a broad understanding of you as a person and the factors that may be contributing to your current difficulties. The goal is to understand the whole person rather than reducing someone to a single aspect of their experience.

Through an initial discussion over three appointments, information is gathered on:

  • Family background and developmental experiences
  • Friendships and social relationships
  • Romantic and intimate relationships
  • Sexual development and sexual history
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Personality functioning
  • Strengths, coping strategies, and protective factors
  • Current life circumstances

Psychotherapy & Treatment

After this assessment period, I will provide appropriate recommendations.

Recommendations vary according to individual circumstances. This may involve ongoing individual psychotherapy, other forms of support I can refer you to, or a combination of approaches.

Psychotherapy provides a private and supportive environment to explore experiences and understand underlying patterns in a long-term therapeutic relationship. Because psychotherapy centres on the development of an ongoing therapeutic relationship, it requires both practical and emotional commitment. The work unfolds gradually and is best suited to individuals capable of engaging in regular sessions over an extended period.

International Appointments

Individuals residing outside Australia are welcome to enquire.

While registered to provide Psychotherapy in Australia, I am insured to provide coaching services internationally via Zoom. Due to differences in licensing and regulatory requirements between jurisdictions, international appointments are provided within a coaching framework.

Where appropriate, recommendations regarding local support services may also form part of the process.

Fees & Contact

The assessment process consists of three 45-50minute appointments conducted via Zoom.

AUD $200 per appointment | USD $150 per appointment (international)
